About three weeks ago, Valley Probate as we knew it changed to accommodate the Stay-At-Home orders. What has changed in this short period of time?
- We offer a virtual probate consultation via FaceTime or Zoom to Valley estate clients.
- Our staff are now working remotely and it seems to be flowing very well.
- The Probate Court has also adjusted its courtrooms and staff. The Probate Court is now hearing Ex Parte and emergency cases. These include temporary conservatorships, other ex partes and elder abuse restraining orders.
- Ex Parte hearings are now heard on the papers only. There is no longer any personal wait time in the Ex Parte hallway in front of room 260.
- Probate hearings are being continued to June, July and August 2020, with no certainty as to whether the Court will continue them again.
How does this affect the Valley Probate practice? It creates change, but change is not always bad. The above forces us to be more efficient with our time and how we allocate tasks, but overall it seems to be working.
Our clients receive their probate petition by email, then sign and return it electronically to us. We then implement the work via probate electronic filing.
